On a snowy day on January 4, 1949 I was born in Tehran, on Amirieh Street. My father being a jurist, and my mother, an employee of Education Administration, I found interest in artistic works and the study of reputable works of world authors. At the age of seven, I, together with some friends, set up the first personal cinema in a deserted room at my borough using my brother’s 8-mm filming apparatus. I remember well that we earned 12 Rials from it.
By 13, I had managed to have a rather complete personal library than others by purchasing pocket books ranging in price from between 15-25 Rials. By that time I’d read various books, and as I was really fond of writing, my writings turned out to be nice. One, extracted from the book(Feather), was performed in the school.
While personally I had preferred to work in art, my father insisted that I would go to the Faculty of Agriculture. I then graduated from the Faculty with a love of plants and flowers in heart which remained in me forever.
It was in Tehran where I attended the courses of the Faculty of Fine Arts on Jaleh Street, Absardar. My professor of oratory was Dr. Forough and of art and theatre Professor Parviz Taeidi, while Ms. Khalatbari, a graduate from England, taught scale models. That same year my design, named the Magic Bean, won me seven thousand Rials, with which I bought a shooting camera. It was as if God opened the doors of Heaven to me.
Thereafter I used all my earnings to buy films. To develop the films we sent them to Germany and the development fee was charged on the film purchase. In short, I worked on a documentary .
Interest in math and analytical science was a profound reason as to why I attended the Institute of Statistics and finished statistician’s course upon completion of my military service. Subsequently, I was assigned the responsibility of the Technical Archive Center of the Ministry of Agriculture Office for Planning, where I first got acquainted with the images taken by Apollo XII from Iran in 1973. In those images, various colors had been encoded so that we could easily find out, for example, how deep a qanat in Ali Abad Sofla was, let alone the extent and depth of the resources of petroleum, gas, gold, copper, wheat and rye.
That very time (36 years ago), I felt I should have known more. The speed of life elsewhere was dramatic.
This was as such enough to decide to leave the homeland and start a new life in the United States. I first entered Johnson & Wales College and then Big Band College, and finally, Central Washington University. I also spent a while at the Institute of Art in San Francisco. Steven Spielberg in a black dense beard, was a young active man passing a project with the Institute, while I was a young boy of thick black moustache! He then became the reputable Spielberg and I remained Soofi.
Upon completion of my studies I decided to return to my country. In May of 1981 I was in Tehran, starting immediately the construction project of the Ziaran Turkey Raising Complex.
While two major foreign companies had assessed to complete the project in seven years, I finished it in two years, which satisfied both the locals and authorities and brought me much credit. Two livestock food and chicken raising facilities, sixteen sheds, forty-eight buildings, workshop and office facilities, watchman stations for stock warehouses, and thirty kilometers of road, are some of my memories from the services I provided to the fighters on the first line of the war, Completing a project that demanded seven years to finish in just a couple of years was the least I could offer them when I could not stay abreast of them.
By March 1984, I was invited by the Broadcasting Organization to work in the capacity of the director of Graphics and Calligraphers Group of the Network. It was as if I was granted a pair of wings to fly my artistic talent. Simultaneously, I was trusted to assume the responsibility of manager of artistic evaluation and director of production supply products in the organization. During those times there were few experts and job lovers, and one could have handled several jobs at the same time. Meanwhile, I managed to rearrange the personnel, use special effects and visual effects in TV captions in several TV workgroups, and apply several visual techniques. Rather than using giant decorations, I employed effects and technographics to avoid huge expense. Concurrently, I began teaching at the Broadcasting College. I acquainted the students with directing, production, and shooting using the latest techniques including mat shot, glass shot, merging the live acting with animation, and special effects.
These modern topics and discussions were reasons I was invited to teach at the Islamic Azad University and the Faculty of Art of the University of Tehran. In total, I taught for twelve years. This was the time when I retired after receiving a letter of complement for early retirement with twenty years of service and twenty days of pension.
I should point out that a sense of independence was inside me from the first moment of entering the country, and this was a good motive to establish Bonyan Tasvir Iran, Delta Film, Designers Group, Middle East Art and Culture Group Companies.
Throughout all these years work, high activity, passion and excitement were my life. However, my most fascinating memory dates back to 1997, with the First Summit of the Heads of Islamic Countries, when I was invited to work at the time I was abroad to see relatives. Nonetheless I was found and called! It was difficult to make the necessary arrangements for the Summit, but thank God everything went all right and brought great credit to the land of Iran.
Alternatively, I worked three years for Aftab Network, based in New York, which resulted in the production and direction of some 175 documentaries from Iran. Some of my slogans became everlasting and perpetual in hundreds of TV teasers, and that really delighted me. I published hundreds of catalogues, brochures, booklets, and arranged fairs and seminars, which are included in the section of Activities on the website.
Now, a passion to write flies my soul. Relying on such an immense amount of experience, I prepared multiple scenarios and scripts .
Now, at times I do sculpturing, construct buildings, perform external and internal decorations, and to cut a long story short, I live a life.

در چهاردهم دي ماه سال يکهزار و سيصد و بيست و هفت در روزي برفي در خيابان اميريه تهران بدنيا آمدم . پدرم حقوقدان و مادرم فرهنگي ، از همان دوران کودکي به کارهاي هنري و مطالعه آثار معروف جهان و نويسندگان علاقمند بودم . در هفت سالگي با آپارات هشت ميلي متري برادر بزرگترم در اطاقي متروکه در محله مان اولين سينماي شخصي را به اتفاق چند تن از دوستان راه اندازي نموديم ، خوب يادم هست دوازده ريال هم کسب درآمد کرديم !!!
تا سن سيزده سالگي با خريد کتاب هاي جيبي که پانزده تا بيست و پنج ريال بود کتابخانه تقريبا تکميلي نسبت به ديگران داشتم و کتابهاي متنوعي را خواندم ، عشق نوشتن در جانم جاري بود و نوشته هايم خوب از آب در ميآمدند ، يکي از آنها که الهام گرفته از کتاب پر ماتيسن بود در مدرسه بنمايش درآمد.
با تاکيد و اصرار پدر به دانشسراي کشاورزي رفتم اگر چه هنر را ترجيح ميدادم . از دانشسراي کشاورزي فارغ التحصيل شدم از آن پس انس و الفت با گياه هميشه با من ماندگار شد .
در تهران به کلاسهاي دانشکده هنر هاي زيبا خيابان ژاله ، آب سردار رفتم ، استاد فن سخن و بيانم دکتر فروغ و استاد هنر و تئاترم استاد پرويز تائيدي بود و اگر اشتباه نکنم خانم خلعتبري تحصيل کرده انگلستان ، ساخت ماکت را تدريس ميکرد . در همان سال طرح ماکت لوبياي سحر آميز من مورد تائيد قرار گرفت ، بنظرم وزير فرهنگ وهنر آن زمان پهلبد بود هفتصد تومان هم جايزه ام بود که با آن پول ، دوربين فيلمبرداري هشت ميلي متري خريدم . انگاري ، خداونددرهاي بهشت را برايم گشوده بود .
از آن پس همه پولهايم براي خريد فيلم خرج ميشد ، براي ظهور فيلم هم آن را مي فرستاديم آلمان پول ظهور روي خريد فيلم بود . خلاصه اينکه مستند سازي را آن دور دور ها کار نمودم ولي سالها بعد در غم از دست دادن جعبه فيلمهايم ، که در اسباب کشي گم شد، ا شک بسيار ريختم .
علاقه به رياضي و علوم تحليلي ، دليلي بود تا بعد از خدمت سربازي سر از انيستيتو آمار در آوردم و دوره آمار گري را به اتمام رساندم و متعاقبا در دفتر برنامه ريزي وزارت کشاورزي مسئول آرشيو فني دفتر شدم . در همان دفتر با عکسهائي که با تکنولوژي آپولو دوازده از ايران گرفته شده بودآشنا شدم. (صحبت 1352 است) بدين ترتيب که رنگهاي گوناگون بر روي عکسها ، کد گذاري شده بود وميتوانستيم بفهميم مثلا در علي آباد سفلي ، آب قنات چقدر است ! حال نفت و گازو طلاو مس و گندم و جو و حجم و اندازه و عمق آن بماند !!!
همان وقتها بود (سي و شش سال پيش) که دريافتم بايستي بيشتر بدانم ، سرعت زندگي در جاهاي ديگر غير قابل تصور بود و رنگها وشوق ها نوع ديگري
همين انگيزه اي شد براي ترک ديار و چشيدن فراز ونشيب بسيار در غربت و سر از آمريکا در آوردم ابتدا در کالج جانسن اند ولز سپس در کالج بيگ بند و آنگاه در دانشگاه مرکزي واشينگتن به تحصيل پرداختم . سري هم به انيستيتو آرت سانفرانسيسکو زدم ، استيون اسبيلبرگ آن زمان پسر فعال و جواني بود و پروژه اي را با انيستيتو مي گذرانيد با ريشي سياه و انبوه و من هم جواني با سبيل سياه و پر پشت ! او اسپيلبرگ معروف شد ومن صوفي ماندم !
آموخته هايم که تکميل شد عشق وطن و بازگشت به سرم زد . ارديبهشت هزارو سيصدشصت به تهران بازگشتم وبلافاصله مديريت پروژه ساختماني بوقلمون و گوشت زياران را عهده دار شدم .
در شرايطي که دو کمپاني معتبر خارجي براي اتمام پروژه برآورد زمان هفت ساله را داشتند، کل پروژه را در دو سال به پايان رساندم ، که موجب امتنان مقامات وقت و سر افرازي خودم شد . دو کارخانه خوراک دام و جوجه کشي ، شا نزده آشيانه و چهل و هشت ساختمان ، و ساختمانهاي کارگاه واداري و پست هاي نگهباني انبار هاي کالا ، سي کيلو متر جاده و غيرو... همگي خاطرات من هستند از خدمت به دلاوران خط اول جبهه تا آنان هم طعم مرغ را بچشند ! من که نمي توانستم در کنارشان باشم لااقل در دشتي دورتر از صداي رگبار و آواي جنگ ، پروژه اي هفت ساله را در دوسال تمام کردم ، به توليد رساندم و تحويل دادم .
اواخر 62 به دعوت سازمان صدا و سيما ، با سمت مديريت گروه گرافيک و خوشنويسان شبکه ها مشغول به کار شدم ، گويي پس از سالها پر پروازي دارم تا طبع هنردوستم را زنده نگه دارم . همزمان مدير ارزشيابي هنري سازمان و هم چنين مدير کالاي پشتيباني توليد سيما شدم . در آن روزگار تعداد متخصصين و دوستدار کار بسيار کم بود و اگر کسي توان داشت ، مسئوليت چندين کار را هم زمان به عهده ميگرفت .توانستم در طول فعاليتم اقدام به بازسازي پرسنلي کنم ، کاربرد هاي اسپشيال افکت و ويژوال افکت در کپشن هاي تلويزيوني را در کار گروههاي متعدد تلويزيوني بکار بستم و تکنيک هاي متعدد بصري را اعمال نمودم . بجاي دکور هاي عظيم از افکت ها و تکنو گرافيک استفاده کردم که ازصرف هزينه هاي هنگفت جلو گيري نمود . هم زمان در دانشکده صدا و سيما مشغول به تدريس شدم در آنجا دانشجويان رشته هاي کارگرداني و تهيه کنندگي و فيلمبرداري را با تکنيک هاي پيشرفته و مدرن آشنا کردم . مت شات ،گلاس شات ، ادغام بازي زنده با انيميشن ، اسپشيال افکت و .... کاربرد جلوه هاي ويژه در تلويزيون و سينما مباحثي بود که مدرس آن ها بودم .
اين مباحث جديد ومدرن وجذاب دليلي بود براي دعوت به تدريس بطور همزمان در دانشگاه آزاد اسلامي و دانشکده هنر دانشگاه تهران ، و در مجموع دوازده سال بتدريس اشتغال داشتم .
پس از بازنشستگي زود هنگام با بيست سال خدمت و بيست روز حقوق با تشويق نامه اي به افتخار بازنشستگي نايل گشتم !
از زمان بازگشت به وطن نياز به استقلال را احساس مي کردم و بدين ترتيب ، شرکت هاي بنيان تصوير ايران ،دلتا فيلم ، گروه طراحان ، گروه فرهنگي هنري خاور ميانه را راه اندازي نمودم .
در طول اين سالها ، هميشه کار و فعاليت و هيجان وهياهو ، غوغا کرده است ، اما زيباترين خاطره ام از برگزاري اولين اجلاس سران کشورهاي اسلامي است(سال 1376) و در حالي دعوت به کار شدم که براي ديدار بستگان به خارج سفر کرده بودم ،ولي با همه اوصاف مرا يافتند و احضار کردند ! براي برگزاري مراسم دوره اي بسيار شاق گذراندم و به شکرخدا حاصل اين زحمت ، همه سرافرازي وافتخار براي ايران زمين شد .
سه سال هم براي شبکه تلويزيوني آفتاب که مرکز آن در نيويورک بود کار کردم که حاصل آن ساخت و توليدو کارگرداني 175 مستند از ايران ميباشد . بعضي از شعارهايم درصدها تيزر تلويزيوني ماندگار وجاودانه شدند ، و مرا شاد ميکنند . صدها کاتالوگ و بروشورو کتاب و دهها نمايشگاه و همايش انجام دادم که در قسمت فعاليت ها در سايت گنجانيده شده .
اينک دوباره نياز به نوشتن ، روحم را پرواز مي دهد ، با اتکا بر اين همه تجربه ، چندين فيلمنامه و سناريو آماده نموده ام . که دوستان با محبتم همه را سر دست بردند ! ودر خواست سناريو هاي جديد را دارند .
گاهي مجسمه سازي مي کنم ، ساختمان ميسازم ، دکوراسيون داخلي آن را انجام مي دهم ، خلاصه روزگار مي گذرانم .
دفترم ، منزلم ،خودم و سايتم که ملاحظه ميکنيد همه در هم ادغام شده ايم . اگر با من در هر رشته گوناگون و متفاوت" هنر" کاري بود روي سايت پيغام بگذاريد حتما با کمي تاخير مي بينم .
